SUMMARY:AI in Research: Understanding trust\, federation\, and the user experience
DESCRIPTION:Event co-located to RDA Plenary 27 in London\, UK.  \nAI agents are already entering research workflows at various levels – from search assistants to co-scientist systems – but their deployment is outpacing our understanding of the user experience\, governance\, and data readiness. This 1-day workshop on 5 Oct in London\, England\, brings together life sciences researchers\, federated digital infrastructures\, and Research Data Alliance (RDA) communities to discuss real-world deployment of AI. \n\nWhat does success (and failure) look like; \nWhat is AI-ready data; and \nWhat practical guardrails are needed for trustworthy and accountable agentic systems?\n\nWe invite participants to share\, explore\, and help define – gaps in metadata\, provenance\, and infrastructure; discuss concerns around “AI for everything”; and identify upskilling needed for researchers\, data stewards\, and agents alike. The workshop topics connect directly to sessions at the RDA27 Plenary\, and the goal is to draft a brief white paper that highlights workshop discussions\, as a launch point for further discussion. \nAgenda: \n\n\n\n09:00\nWelcome and setting the stage\n\n\n09:45\nSession I – Data and AI: \nDefining AI-Ready Data – presentations and demos\n\n\n10:30\nCoffee break\n\n\n11:00\nSession I – Data and AI cont.: \nDefining AI-Ready Data – breakout discussions\n\n\n12:00\nLunch and networking\n\n\n13:00\nSession II – Infrastructure for AI:\nGovernance & Guardrails – breakout / scenario planning\n\n\n14:30\nCoffee break\n\n\n15:00\nSession III – People and AI: \nSkills\, training\, access – breakout discussions\n\n\n16:30\nRecap and next steps\n\n\n17:00\nWorkshop close
